Discover Esplanada Liberdade

Esplanada Liberdade is an urban development project that will transform the landscape of the traditional Liberdade neighborhood and contribute to the revitalization of downtown São Paulo.

The project includes the construction of a large structure over the Radial Leste-Oeste expressway, connecting four major viaducts — Guilherme de Almeida, Mie Ken, Cidade de Osaka, and Shuhei Uetsuka — with the goal of creating a new public space dedicated to culture, commerce, gastronomy, leisure, tourism, and services.

Project Objectives

Urban reconnection of the territory divided by Radial Leste Avenue

Provision of more and better spaces for circulation, leisure, and public gathering in the area

Implementation of new shaded green areas and improvement of the existing ones

Enhancement of the cultural heritage of the Liberdade neighborhood

Hosting the neighborhood’s events, activities, and cultural programs in appropriate venues

Sustainability: rainwater harvesting, water reuse, green roofs, and solar lighting

Creation of new jobs and establishment of new spaces for social entrepreneurship

Provision of free activities for residents and visitors

Upper Level Block

Located between Avenida da Liberdade and Rua Galvão Bueno, the UPPER LEVEL BLOCK is designed with a commercial vocation, featuring buildings and leasable gross areas to enhance one of the most sought-after uses for those who visit the neighborhood.

Central Block

The heart of the project is the widening of Galvão Bueno Street along the stretch that coincides with the Cidade de Osaka Viaduct. Considering that this area currently concentrates most of the region’s foot traffic and tourist visits, the decision was made to boldly optimize this use, ensuring the greatest possible enjoyment and accessibility for pedestrians.

Lower Level Block

The Mie-Ken Viaduct connects the CENTRAL BLOCK to the LOWER LEVEL BLOCK, the third and final block that completes the project area. Visible from the upper levels, this block is designed to serve as a destination for large-scale events, which currently lack sufficient space within the neighborhood’s narrow streets.
